FSM were asked to put together 3 television commercials for the Australian Red Cross "Doing It Tough" Appeal. Due to the tight deadline, FSM decided to do 1 spot and give 2 other post-production houses the opportunity to do the others. The segments delivered needed to have the flexibility to be edited into 1 sequence altogether or stand alone as self-contained commercials. While FSM worked on the Tsunami spot, Mighty Nice and Halo worked on Flood and Earthquake, respectively. The concept for the Appeal explained that Red Cross acted both globally in dealing with major disasters and locally, by helping people in need throughout Australia.
I enjoyed this project because I worked with a charity - an ideal of mine - and alongside other design / post-production houses who, however friendly, are normally pushed into competition against each other. It was also a major compliment that the client was happy enough to base the print campaign on the style frames.
The above quicktime movie is the FSM spot with lightning (to add more atmosphere). For the on-air version, the lightning was taken out as the main element to emphasise was the tidal wave.
